- No account needed for lessons, puzzles, the Daily Challenge or games against the coach. That all stays on your phone.
- Online play needs an account, created with Sign in with Apple. We receive a private identifier, never your name or email.
- No ads, no trackers, no selling data. Usage statistics are off unless you switch them on.
- You stay in control: export or delete your account from inside the app at any time.
1.Who we are
Cube Backgammon is published by [Company name], a company registered in [country] (company number [number]), [registered address] (“we”, “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at hello@cubebackgammon.com.
2.What stays on your phone
Your lessons, puzzles, Daily Challenge answers, games against the coach, guest rating and settings are stored on your phone. The coach’s analysis runs on your phone too. If you don’t create an account, none of this is sent to us, and deleting the app deletes it.
3.What we hold if you create an account
You only need an account to play online and to back up your progress. With one, we hold:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| A random account number that we create | To run your account | Until you delete your account |
| An identifier from Apple that tells us it’s the same person signing in again. Not your name or email. | To sign you in | Until you delete your account |
| A sign-in session, stored only in scrambled (hashed) form | To keep you signed in | 30 days, or until you sign out |
| The pseudonym you choose | To show your opponents who they’re playing | Until you delete your account |
| A copy of your progress | So you can restore it on another device | Until you reset your progress or delete your account |
| Your online rating and rated results | To rate games fairly and count each result once | Until you delete your account |
| Your online match records: who played, whether the match was rated, its status and dates | To find your games, limit open games and check results | Until you delete your account |
| Your usage-statistics choice | To respect it | Until you change it or delete your account |
4.Online games
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The game itself: board, dice, moves, cube, clock and both pseudonyms | To run the game, roll the dice and check every move is legal | Deleted 24 hours after creation if nobody joins, after 14 days without activity, and 7 days after the game ends |
| A matchmaking request: your rating and match settings | To find an opponent near your level | Until you’re matched or cancel, then removed within 10 minutes |
Your pseudonym and rating are visible to the players you meet online. Nothing else in these tables is shown to other players.
An invitation link contains a one-time code. Anyone who has the link can take the seat, so share it only with the person you’re inviting.
5.Usage statistics (optional, off by default)
If you switch on usage statistics in Settings, the app sends anonymous daily counts of which features are used, with the app version and language. They carry no account, device or session identifier, and we keep them for at most 90 days.
If you are signed in, the same switch also lets us see a summary of your account in a private dashboard: a shortened account code, when you joined and were last active, your rating, your number of matches and your sync version. It never shows your pseudonym or your sign-in identity. The anonymous counts and the account summary can’t be linked to each other. Switch statistics off at any time and the summary stops.
6.What we never collect
Your name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos or advertising identifier. There is no chat or voice. There are no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking tools, and we don’t sell or share personal data for advertising. Our servers don’t keep logs of IP addresses or of what your requests contain. Your games are not collected to train our engine, and the app does not send notifications.
7.Who else is involved
- Cloudflare runs our servers, database and online game rooms on our behalf. Like any network provider, it sees your IP address when your phone connects.
- Apple, if you sign in with Apple, confirms your identity to us under its own privacy policy. We request no profile information, and no name or email.
- Google Fonts supplies this website’s typefaces and receives your IP address when they download. The app carries its own typefaces and does not contact Google.
If we ever want to use your data for a purpose not described here, we’ll update this policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.
8.Our legal bases
Under UK and EU data protection law, we rely on:
- Providing the service you asked for (contract): your account, sign-in, sync, online games and ratings.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the service secure and fair, for example preventing cheating, abuse and rating manipulation.
- Consent: usage statistics.
9.International transfers
Cloudflare operates worldwide, so your data may be processed outside the UK and the European Economic Area. Where it is, we rely on recognised safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
10.Your controls and rights
In the app, Settings, Account & cloud lets you export your data, sign out and delete your account. Deleting it removes your account, sign-in identities, sessions, pseudonym, progress, rating and choices, and cancels your open online games. The app also asks Apple to revoke its Sign in with Apple authorisation; if that can’t be confirmed, it shows you how to remove Cube Backgammon in your Apple Account settings. Progress stored on your phone stays there until you reset it or delete the app. When an opponent deletes their account, their link to the games you played together is removed.
You also have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the use of your data, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email us at hello@cubebackgammon.com and we’ll reply within one month. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority where you live.
11.Children
Cube Backgammon is for people aged 13 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
12.Security
Connections are encrypted. Sign-in sessions and reconnection codes are stored only in hashed form. In online games, our server rolls the dice and checks every move.
13.This website
cubebackgammon.com sets no cookies and uses no analytics or tracking. Its pages load typefaces from Google Fonts. Invitation pages are hidden from search engines and don’t pass your address on to other sites.
14.Changes to this policy
When we update this policy, we’ll change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
